What is a Target Area?

Target Areas are economically distressed areas of the community where home ownership is highly encouraged in order to improve neighborhood conditions.  MCC program requirements for these areas are less stringent than within non-target areas – for example, a person does not need to be a first-time homebuyer in order to qualify for the program, and they may have a higher income or a higher purchase price than someone purchasing in a non-target area.  See our program requirements for more details.

Target areas are determined by census tract numbers. Please click on each county below to see the census tracts considered to be target areas in each county.

What census tract is my home in?

All census tracts may be found by using the interactive TigerWeb map offered by the US Census Bureau.

Additionally, you may be able to more easily locate the census tract of a particular property by contacting the Assessor’s Office of the county that the property is located in.  Some counties even have websites that allow you to look up property information yourself.

The below instructions are for Pima County properties only:

To find your census tract number, follow the steps below:

1.  Go to the Pima County Assessor’s Website.

2.  Under the search tool, click the “Advanced” link.

3.  Click the “Address” button.

4.  Enter your address, and then click the “Search” icon.

5.  Once your property appears, expand the “Property Information” detail category using the “+”.

6.  The census tract number for your property will be listed in this section.   ***Note: The census tract listed may appear with or without a decimal point, i.e., 1304 = 13.04.***

Where to find your census tract

Once you’ve got your census tract number, compare it to our list of target areas above.  Or, just give us a call, and we will be happy to tell you if the property is in a target area, and if you will qualify for an MCC.
