CIC COVID-19 Emergency Loan Success Story!

In mid-March, as our country was facing the unprecedented reality of rapid closure to ensure public safety the Community Investment Corporation loan team understood exactly what that meant for small businesses, revenue loss that could potentially lead to permanent closure.

Within days the CIC team developed the COVID-19 Emergency Microloan product and began offering access to two community-backed loan products, one from Kiva Tucson and one from Wefunder, each designed to bridge small businesses through the unknown future.

In addition, CIC invested $200,000 of our loan portfolio to support these small businesses either for the $10,000 microloan product or the help businesses reach a time-sensitive community-backed loan goal.

Designing and making jewelry has been Don Lovett’s passion since he was 16 years old when he honed his craft at his father’s jewelry shop in Detroit. We are glad Don didn’t run off to be a welder on the Alaskan Pipeline, choosing instead the fine and intricate “welding” and melding of jewelry in much warmer Tucson.  

An Independent Jeweler for 40 years, Don does custom jewelry work and repairs. After 20 years in the same location at Sunrise & Swan, his customers are family. He is concerned for their health and safety and he is concerned for the craftsmen who contract services. When independent jewelers are shutdown, it affects laser technicians, engravers, wax model carvers, bead stringers, and watch makers.
